In all aspects of our lives we are required to obey laws and rules. Children must obey their parents, citizens obey laws, students and athletes obey rules and so on.
The first and most important rule of obedience that we seem to forget, is the obedience to God. He does not ask us for promises or commitments or sacrifice, but he does ask us to obey his word. That obedience and faith in God’s word is what draws us closer in our personal relationship with Him. God’s unconditional love and His promise is always with us. “The Lord is near to all who call on Him, to all who call on Him in truth”. Psalm 145:18
Our obedience and faith is what keeps the path straight towards righteousness. Obeying can be difficult at times but the rewards are great. “For the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness for those who have been trained by it”. Hebrews 12:11
It seems like society is based on self gratification and justification. Too many sentences begin with “I want” and “I deserve” or “It is okay if”. We must turn away from what we want and turn towards what God wants for us. “If you abide in me and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish and it will be done for you”. John 15:7
Our lives should be governed by the fruits of the spirit such as love, kindness, patience, peace, goodness, faithfulness, and joy. If you notice the fruits of the spirit are not about selfishness, but they are about how we act and treat others and in turn are the rewards.
Have a Blessed day!
